Billy was born on September 7, 1938, in Roswell, New Mexico. He served in the United States Army briefly in the early 1960s. He then found his way to Nashville, where he had a career as a musician and songwriter. Achievements of Mr. Large include a #1 song and a cover by Johny Cash.
