Christine "Chris" Blanton

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Christine (Chris) Blanton, age 80, passed away peacefully November 18, 2020 after a long fight with dementia.

Chris Blanton was born February 10, 1940 in Tennessee City, TN and is survived by her devoted and loving husband Gene Allen Blanton.

Until her health condition made it impossible Chris was active in the life of her long-time church First United Methodist Church. She also served as the Chairman of the Cosmetology Board for the State of Tennessee and became an entrepreneur late in life owning a storage facility. However, despite her condition, up until a year ago she and Gene would go dancing every Saturday night at the VFW post 88. They would stay until closing. Fond memories also include how much she loved cooking, gardening, entertaining, shopping, extensive traveling, tailgating at University of TN and TN Titans games and most of all family get togethers.

She was preceded in death by her father, JC Brazzell, Sr and her mother Margaret McElhiney Brazzell and two sisters.

Chris is survived by her children; Terry Smith (Jan), Sandi Smith Tygard (Scott), Judi Jones-Brown (Wesley); grandchildren Chase Jones (Allison), Chandler Tygard (Lauren), Rachel Smith Parkinson (Cory), Will Smith, Katie Tygard Davis (Derrick); and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as, stepson Kenneth Blanton (Angie). She was also survived by her brother, JC Brazzell, Jr and sister June (Bradley) Spurlock along with many nieces and nephews. All of those she loved and touched deeply. She is also survived by her devoted cat, Babe, who became her best friend later in her life.

Graveside services will be conducted at Spring Hill Cemetery. Her family has entrusted her services to Austin and Bell Funeral home, Hendersonville. 615-822-4442
