Mr. David M. Dwortzan

David M. Dwortzan died on May 22, 2020 after a long illness in Nashville at the age of 66. Born and raised in suburban New Jersey, he lived in Nashville for three decades.
A graduate of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, David was a master of the written and spoken word. He published feature stories in newspapers and served as a radio broadcaster and television reporter in cities and towns from New Hampshire to Iowa, his interview subjects ranging from a local ice cream restauranteur to Harry Chapin and Ed Sullivan.
But in his 30s he discovered a more compelling vehicle for his wit and wordplay in the art of country songwriting. Since his move to Nashville, he wrote or co-wrote hundreds of country songs, a number of which were recorded by professional musicians in Nashville and beyond. He was seldom more than a few feet away from a guitar and notepad.
David showed equal devotion to his beloved partner (and occasional co-writer), Ruth Rosen, and her daughter, Ella, of Nashville. He is also survived by his loving brothers Alan (of Pompano Beach, Florida) and Mark Dwortzan (of Newton, Massachusetts), his father Bernard Dwortzan (of Boynton Beach, Florida), and last but not least, his cat Zoie (of Nashville).
Burial will take place at Larkspur Conservation, Tennessee’s first conservation burial ground.
