Mary Kay Barrass

May 7, 1952 — March 19, 2021

Mary Kay Barrass, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on March 19, 2021 at the age of 68.

Mary Kay was born in 1952 to Robert and Corrine Norris in Watertown, New York. The family moved to Madison, Tennessee in 1954. After graduating from Madison High School, she attended Austin Peay State University. Mary Kay would later be married to Dr. Andrew (Andy) Barrass in 1988, until 2014 when Andy passed away. Mary Kay worked in HCA Healthcare’s Nashville reimbursement department for several years before retiring in 2014. After retirement, she moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee.

She loved the Lord and lived out her faith every day. She was a member of a church choir that visited assisted living facilities weekly. She also helped prepare “Feed the Need” meals several times a year.

Mary Kay loved to spend time with her sister Tawnie at her home in Nashville and travel with her, husband Vic and children Wirth and Meredith, to Colorado and Florida. “Gingee”, as their mother was affectionately called by the family, often traveled with them. Mary Kay, Tawnie and Gingee spent many hours putting puzzles together wherever they were.

She lived near her brother Steve and his wife Charlotte, and enjoyed having them to dinner often. She also loved shopping with nieces, Cheryl and Jennifer, and spending time with her great-niece and great-nephews.

Mary Kay was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, where she met Richard M. Simmons. They loved to travel, cook, take in movies, spend time with their dog Charley Girl, and enjoy family and friends.

She is survived by her brother Steve (Charlotte) Norris; sister Tawnie (Vic) Campbell; sisters-in-law Ellen (Rick) Parsons and Betsy Norris; brothers-in-law Nick Barrass and Greg ( Michelle) Barrass; nieces Cheryl Norris Webb; Jennifer Norris Solecki, Meredith Campbell, Megan Barrass Morrison ; nephews Shane Norris, Wirth Campbell, Nicholas Spahr, Geoffrey Spahr and Josh Barrass.

Mary Kay is preceded in death by mother, Helen Corrine Norris; father, Robert Eugene Norris; brother, David Cooper (Betsy) Norris; and husband, Dr. Andrew Neal Barrass.
