Mary Scott Hunt

June 17, 1932 — February 14, 2022

Mary (Scott) Hunt

On February 14, Mary (affectionately referred to as “little” Mary by her family) entered into her eternal rest. Mary was born on June 17, 1932, in Pike County, KY to the (late) Ransom and Martha (Coleman) Scott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Hunt in 2019. They were blessed with two sons, Clifford Steven (Darla) Hunt of Gallatin, TN and Leslie Mark (Agnes) Hunt of Mt. Juliet, TN. Cliff and Mary were also blessed with five grandchildren—Joshua Hunt, Nathan(Kayla) Hunt, Natalie (Blake) Holmes, Tasha (Chase) Gregory, and Lisa Ibay, as well as four great grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Earl (Judy) Scott of Georgetown, KY, and sister, Betty Scott of Gallatin, TN. Two brothers, Burl Scott and Dave Scott Jr., as well as two sisters, Juanita Bennett and America Reed preceded her in death. Mary also had four siblings to die in infancy--Charles, Jackie, Ethel, and a twin sister, Martha. She also was one of 58 double-first cousins, resulting from four Scott brothers marrying four Coleman sisters. A special care giver, Terri Smith, was also an integral part of our mother’s life this past year.

Mary was a former member at Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Belfry, KY, for many years. While leaving in Huntington, they attended Cannonsburg PBC in Ashland, KY. Upon moving to Tennessee, she became a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Goodlettsville, TN. For almost 60 years, she rested in God’s sovereignty and the finished work of Jesus Christ. Her entire life was focused on serving others and always--as she saw the day approaching--was in her kitchen preparing meals for church fellowships and luncheons; And, in that regard, was known for her making of gingerbread, apple stack cakes, and delicious fried apple pies. For a short period of time, she worked full time, as a cook at Varney Elementary and Belfry High School in Pike County, Kentucky.

Visitation will occur on Sunday, February 20, from 1:00-2:00 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, located at 515 Long Hollow Pike, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Elders Ronald Lawrence and Paul Trautner co-officiating.
