Mr. Tommy E. Womack

Tommy E. Womack, age 81 of Gallatin, passed away peacefully May 5, 2020 at his home. A proud lifelong resident of Sumner County, Tommy was born on April 23, 1939, the youngest of 7 children born to the late John Paul “Buddy” Womack and the late Edna Burris Womack. He was a veteran of our nation’s armed forces, having served proudly in the United States Army. Tommy retired from Gates Rubber Company with many years of service; after retirement he worked for a short time at Roger’s Market and later worked in funeral service for many years, most recently as co-owner and co-founder of Sumner County Funeral and Cremation Services until March 2020. He was a longtime member of the Gallatin Lion’s Club and enjoyed working with the Sumner County Fair for many years, and was a former Sumner County Commissioner. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy Womack, Edna May Burris Womack; step-mother, Elizabeth Dobbs Womack; twin brothers, Harold “Brother” and Herschel Womack; twin brothers, Roy “Link” and Royce “June” Womack; and brother, Joe Miller Womack. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margie Womack; sister, Edna Earle ”Put” Womack Mayberry (Robert); many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and his friends at the early morning Hardee’s breakfast group. The Womack Family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2020 from 4-7 P.M. at a drive-through visitation at the Sumner County Fairgrounds. Please follow the signs at the fairgrounds and directions of the staff. Tommy will be laid to rest in a private graveside service in the Womack family plot at the historic Gallatin City Cemetery. While the family appreciates your acknowledgement of sympathy with the sending of flowers, they request that instead you make a donation in Tommy’s name to the Cairo United Methodist Church.
