Listen to Obituary

Amy Ruth Jackson née Wall, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026. She is preceded by her husband of 69 years, Joe Leroy Jackson who passed away September 28, 2021. Amy had four children, David Joseph Jackson, (Helen), Roberta Anne Jackson, James Leroy Jackson (Diane), and John Mark Jackson. She had eight grandchildren, Virginia Spader Woods (Nathan), Ethan Samuel Jackson, Marilyn Jackson Terry (Owen), Jessica Spader Jones, James Kenneth Spader, IV (Allyson), John Neil Jackson, Mark Evan Jackson (Victoria), and Courtney Wheeler Hood (Bill), as well as ten great-grandchildren. She was born in Charlotte, Tennessee on June 14, 1932, as the middle child of Artie Belle and Slayden Boyd Wall. From birth until age nineteen, Amy lived with her parents and siblings on their family farm near Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee. Like her contemporaries, Amy was a product of the Great Depression and grew up on a hardscrabble, Dickson County farm.

After attending Charlotte Elementary School and Sweet Home Elementary School, Amy advanced to Charlotte High School and was courted by Cumberland Furnace native, Joe Jackson, the youngest child of Sally Cynthia and Robert Freeman Jackson. On July 28, 1952, Amy and Joe were married at Water Street Church of Christ in Charlotte and briefly honeymooned in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Choosing a path focused on home and family, Amy’s love and devotion surrounded her children and husband. She was a wonderful cook, whose homemade ice cream, coconut cakes, yellow cake with chocolate frosting (grandkid’s favorite) and potato salad anchored three generations of family gatherings. Her sewing machine was usually busy making clothing, especially fleece socks, quilts for her grandchildren, and occasionally theater costumes. Amy was a truth-teller, steadfast, and kind to a fault. She had a playful sense of humor. Her family always held a central place in her life and heart. She was a faithful churchgoer who held her personal faith close throughout her life.

As Amy’s children, we wish to express special appreciation to Wanda Bryant who has been our mother’s care giver and friend for almost five years. Her dedication, undying devotion, and comfort brought to our mother could never be replaced. Also, we are grateful to our cousin, Sherry Williams, for her regular visits and the personal care she provided for our mother. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Aveanna Hospice and Vitality Living for their compassionate care and support in her final weeks.

As the matriarch of our family, Amy was a kind and faithful soul; her presence will be sorely missed. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace, and the warmth of her love will live on in our hearts forever.
