Brenda Sue Ferguson went home to Glory late Monday night, August 24, 2026.
Born November 21, 1946, she was raised in the mountains of Anawalt, West Virginia. She attended Spanishburg High School in Spanishburg, West Virginia, and achieved her executive secretarial degree at Beckley College in Beckley, West Virginia, leading to a long and successful career. Her first position using that degree was serving as executive secretary to the head of the business department at Concord College in Athens, West Virginia for 4 years. Other notable secretarial positions she excelled at include Joy Manufacturing in Bluefield, Virginia, Krystal’s corporate headquarters, and several churches, which was her preferred use of her business skills. She married her college sweetheart Gene Ferguson on May 6, 1966 in Perrisburg, Virginia, (recently celebrating their 60th anniversary) and together they raised 3 unique beautiful daughters, relocating to Hendersonville, Tennessee in 1979, and then Westmoreland, Tennessee in 1987.
Gene and Brenda have been dedicated members of their home church Robert’s Tabernacle COGOP in Westmoreland for over 35 years.
Some of Brenda’s many personal interests include: singing on her church praise team, talking to all different kinds of people, shopping, Monday morning “breakfast with the girls”, reading, looking at family pictures, sitting on her porch swing, and reminiscing with childhood friends at class reunions. However, her favorite thing was spending quality time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her dear mother and father Lucille “Lou” Cochran-Davis and Ralph Cochran and dear granddaughter Rebekkah “Bekki” Scruggs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Robert “Gene” Ferguson; beloved daughters Michelle (Matt) McLane, Danielle (Marty) Scruggs, and Chandra (Daniel) Wilkerson; precious granddaughters Jessica McLane and Roni Scruggs; and dear brother Ronald “Ronnie” (Shirley) Cochran.
Brenda will always be remembered for her positivity, love of people and family, attention to detail, beautiful style, kindness, sweet heart and disposition, and ultimately, a lifelong devotion and service to her Lord Jesus.
An informal celebration of life is planned to be held at Robert’s Tabernacle Church basement in Westmoreland, Tennessee on September 12, 2026, beginning at noon. Please wear bright, happy colors and sparkle.
Her husband requests if anyone has personal memories to share of their time with Brenda, please provide them in written form at the celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Robert’s Tabernacle Church in Westmoreland, Tennessee or New Community Fellowship Church in Adolphus, Kentucky.
