Listen to Obituary

Brett Alan Vargason, a musician and resident of Nashville, TN, died suddenly on February 28th, 2026, at the age of 57 from head and neck cancer.

Brett is survived by his parents; Victor Vargason and Jane Kapellas Vargason; his wife; Maria Partain Vargason; his children, Victor Ambrose Vargason, Amelia Greer Vargason, Thomas Anselm Vargason; and his brothers, Brian Scott Vargason and Brad Andrew Vargason (Tina) and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in death by his son, James Augustine Vargason; his grandmothers, Myrtle Vargason and Sarah Kapellas; and his grandfathers, Harold Vargason and James Kapellas.

Brett was born in Troy, MI, on November 9th, 1968, to Victor and Jane Vargason. He graduated from Athens High School in 1986 and attended Western Michigan University. He returned to school during COVID and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. He has recently pursued his masters in Marriage and Family Counseling. On June 4th, 1994, he married Maria, whom he met while they both worked at Primus Automotive Financial Services. He welcomed four beautiful children: three boys and one girl, who were the most important part of his life.

Brett was a musician and drummer for the majority of his life. He was a founding member of Zodlounge, a music production company where he recorded and produced various artists in Nashville. He received great joy and satisfaction from drumming for many acts and touring with many artists and bands. He paused musically and pursued a different passion through his work as Executive Director of East Nashville Little League. He loved the game of baseball and connecting with people. He was, in a nutshell, relational. He could be found during lunch at any given pizza parlor, having an impromptu counseling session with his friends. This is what led him to pursue a degree in Marriage and Family. Brett always led with humor and love in everything that he did. Brett was a devout Christian and an elder at City Church in East Nashville.

A celebration of Brett’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 9th, 2026 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Reverend Craig Brown and Reverend Jeff Wilkins officiating.
