David Turner Farrar, age 85 of Hendersonville, passed away on August 8, 2026. David was a native Nashvillian and graduated from Hillsboro High School and Vanderbilt University. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina and spent his professional career as an educator, first as a chemistry professor in Cookeville, Tennessee and Williamsburg, Kentucky, and later as a technology coordinator for a public school district in Williamsburg. He is preceded in death (2005) by his first wife, Lillian Bondurant “Bonnie” McKay Farrar, his high school sweetheart with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage. He was blessed with a second marriage to Doryce “Dee” Farrar who also preceded him in death in 2022. David was a man of deep Christian faith and instilled a love of science and critical thinking in all his children, Edward Farrar (Katrina), John Farrar (Karen), and Eva Farrar Dye (Billy). Memories of their childhood include summer travel adventures as he conducted physical chemistry research at labs around the United States and helping with chemistry magic shows. In his later years, he became an avid cyclist, biking more than 20,000 miles! In addition to three children, he and Bonnie were blessed with seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Glenn Farrar and Lillian Turner Farrar, and his siblings Evelyn Anne Farrar, Walter Glenn Farrar Jr, Lillian Margaret Ham, and Donald Stafford Farrar.
In lieu of flowers, David requested donations be made to Walden’s Puddle Wildlife Center, in honor of his love of animals, and to the Alzheimer Society, in honor and memory of his wife Dee.
