Dorothy Ann (Smith) Porter of Hendersonville, TN was born on March 13, 1935 to the late Frank L. and Marguerite Smith in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1953. She attended Tennessee Tech University where she met her husband, Grover Louis (G.L.) Porter. Dorothy married G.L. Porter on Dec. 17, 1955. G.L. grew up in the Hillsdale area of Macon Co., TN. He was a son of the late Don E. and Dorothy (Woodmore) Porter.

Dorothy was an Executive Administrative Assistant for various College Deans at Western Kentucky University and the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Dorothy and G.L. were world travelers throughout the United States, Europe, and Russia.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank L. and Marguerite Smith, and her husband, G.L. Porter. She is survived by her daughter, Venice Edmonds (David), son, Don Lee (Becky) and son, Paul, her grandchildren, Krista Sykes (Kevin) and Mason Johnson (Kristen) and her great-granddaughters, Addie and Audrey Johnson. She is also survived by her brother, Johnny R. Smith, sisters-in-law Lenora Gammon, Peggy Williams and Linda Porter, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Interment will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in Anderson and Son Memorial Park, Lafayette, TN. Active pallbearers will be Richard Gammon, Robert Gammon, Alex Gammon, Bryan Nichols, Bryce Nichols, and Frank Reid Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny R. Smith, Don Lee Porter, Jon Paul Porter, David Edmonds, Mason Johnson, Kevin Sykes, Andrew Gammon and Kaleb Dillon.

The family would like to thank the staff at NHC Sumner Place and the nurses at Highpoint Hospice, Gallatin, for their loving care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highpoint Hospice, 300 Steam Plant Rd., Suite 220, Gallatin, TN 37066 or Feed Sumner Food Bank, 1121 Gregory Drive, Gallatin, TN 37066.
