Edith Ray Stewart, age 79 of Gallatin and formerly of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away July 2, 2021 surrounded by family. Edith was born on October 29, 1941 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Herbert and Anna Ray. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Stewart; infant daughter, Heather Dawn Miller; son, James Wayne Holland; grandson, William Glenn Britt; and brother, Richard Phillips. She is survived by her children, Kenna Anderson (Andy), Memorie Christenson (Brian), Frances Brown (Russell), and Christina Miller; grandchildren, Jason Ranew, Vincent Britt, Heather Hunter, and Kirby McPherson; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Glenna Simmons, Dr. Ken Phillips, Wiley Phillips, Jr., Dianna Thomaston, and Leland Phillips. Edith will be remembered as strong-willed, independent and tenacious; she supported her church, Advent Lutheran Church in LaGrange, GA and her community; most importantly she loved her family dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be deeply missed by her family. A Celebration of Edith’s Life will be held at a later date.
