Watertown

Scott Edward Jones, age 60, of Watertown, Tennessee passed away November 14, 2023.  Scott was born on January 11, 1963 in Rutland, Vermont to Wilton W. and Judith M. Jones.

Scott is preceded in death by his father, Wilton Wayne Jones; and youngest brother, Keith Andrew Jones.

Scott is survived by his mother, Judith M. Jones of Steep Falls, Maine; brother, Wayne C. Jones (Karen) of Windham, Maine; sisters, Gail J. Wilkerson (Van) of Portland, Maine and Brenda L. Jones of Hendersonville, Tennessee; nieces, Danya Tawater Kent of Portland, Tennessee, Alexis Wilkerson of Auburn, Maine, and Ashley Davis (Josh) of Hendersonville, Tennessee; nephews, R. Christopher Jones (Amanda) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Van Erik Wilkerson of Portland, Maine; six great-nephews, Joshua, Jadon, Cason, Renly, Luca, and Graeme all of Tennessee; and his friends, Tinker Vinson, of 40+ years, of Watertown, Tennessee and  Jimmy Ivey, of 20+years, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Scott was born on January 11, 1963 to Wilton W. and Judith M. Jones of Rutland, VT. He was the second of five children. When he was six, the family moved to the town of Steep Falls, ME. His childhood years consisted of the Cub Scouts, where he developed an interest in fishing and trapping, a local newspaper route, and playing baseball and ice hockey with siblings and friends. In his early teens, Scott discovered comedy through the Monty Python and Saturday Night Live TV programs, this combined with his study of the Reader's Digest, fueled his lifelong clever sense of humor and dry quick wit. Scott was a fan of late 70's rock music, including bands like KISS, Boston, and Aerosmith, which spurred his love of playing guitar. He was a good student and graduated in the Bonny Eagle High School class of 1981.

After encountering a "snow drift" one night on his way home from work, he decided he had to get out of the state of Maine. Scott’s fascination with big rigs and diesel engines, coupled with his natural mechanical aptitude, led him to enroll at Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN, in 1982. Upon graduating, he began his career in the trucking industry.

Scott lived and worked in and around Nashville for the last 40+ years of his life. A loyal and hard worker, Scott was a long-time valued employee of Howard Baer Trucking and most recently AAA Cooper Transportation of LaVergne, TN. When not at work, most of us remember him tending to his property, his pups, and his horses. He was a cowboy through and through. Scott was a good man with a simple conservative life. Anyone who called him friend knew that it was a gift, as Scott didn't let many people in. For those that he did let in, he loved them even though he couldn't always express it to them.

As his family and friends, we miss him and are completely heartbroken. We do find solace in the fact that when he slipped from the binds of this earth and touched the face of God, he was in the home he created for himself, for the last 20 years.
