Eva Jane Johnston, 88, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Eva Jane was born on December 18, 1936, in San Diego, CA to James E. and Virginia (Van Wormer) Hard. She and her twin sister, Flo Jean Schlosser, grew up in West Plains, Missouri. They stayed in close contact with their high school friends in West Plains, enjoying annual slumber parties well into their 70’s.
Eva Jane was an English teacher at Gallatin Senior High School for 35 years. As well as teaching, she worked with the Drama Club, Cheerleaders, Student Council and other student clubs and activities. She leaves a unique legacy for those around her who she inspired to love literature, words and books. But watch your grammar!
Eva Jane was an avid reader and loved to play bridge. She spent most of her adult life singing in the church choir and became the choir director in the last few years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Gallatin, Tennessee, and also a member of the Daughters of the Holy Cross. She was passionate about her charities, particularly those involving young children.
She didn’t want to hug you but she loved you more.
Eva Jane is preceded in death by her parents “Good” and “Beanie”and by her twin sister, Flo Jean Schlosser. She is survived by her son Bobby Johnston (Debbie), grandson Robby Johnston (Kesley Resha), and great-grandson Beckham Johnston. In addition, she is survived by nephew Kenny Schlosser (Kimberly), and nieces Katie Strawn (Danny), and Kerry Henson (William). She also leaves behind numerous cousins and close friends.
The family has designated St. Michael’s Anglican Church for memorial contributions, 105 Shiloh Road, Gallatin, TN 37066.
A celebration of Eva’s life will be held at a later date and arrangements will be announced when available.
