H. Glenn Burton

H. Glenn Burton, age 90 of Hendersonville and formerly of Madison, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024 at Maple Cottage in Hendersonville. Glenn was born on June 14, 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Howell G. Burton and the late Leola Pearl Pitts. In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara Thomas Burton.

He is survived by his daughters, Tyra Shelton, Talisa Cowden (Jeff), and Tania Bodiford (Phil); grandchildren, Micah Howell, Zack Howell (Shelley), Colby Shelton (Erin), Corey Huddleston (Jeremy), Caitlyn Radford, Keaton Mims (Eric), Sloan Shaw (Michael), and Lieren Kennedy (Kyle); and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Maisley, Cayden, Layne, Brance, Addalyn, Ella, Sophia, Julie, Elliot, Dorian, Alistair, Lennox, Arlowe, Tatum, and Kade. 

Glenn was a lifelong Nashvillian graduating from Hume-Fogg High School. He and his beloved Barbara raised their family in Madison. He proudly served his country and was retired from the United States Army. Glenn was a longtime member and Deacon of Madison Church of Christ and later an Elder and Deacon at Neely’s Bend Church of Christ. He faithfully visited the soldiers at the VA Hospital and shut-ins for many years. Glenn was a proud PawPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a proud father to his three girls. He enjoyed their entertainment and joined them in reciting Psalm 23 and “Jesus Loves Me.” He loved his family dearly. 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville. Interment will follow in Beech Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 9:00 A.M. until time of service.
