Homer Hayden Bradley

June 30, 1928 — June 27, 2022

On the evening of June 27, 2022 Heaven opened for Homer Hayden Bradley, age 93, to enter and be with God and his loved ones. A strong Christian, Homer was a lifelong member of Cairo Methodist Church, and a shining example for others to follow in his love, kindness and dedication to helping his fellow men. He was a graduate of the 1947 class of Gallatin High School.

Married for 47 years to Lucy Olga Jacobs Bradley until her death in 2002, Homer had one daughter, Lynda Gail Bradley Love, whom he often introduced as his “favorite daughter.” His parents were Thomas H. (Tom) and Ethel Preuett Bradley of the Cairo community, with two brothers, Eugene Bradley and Herschel Bradley (both deceased). Homer was born into a farming family and remained a farmer of the land he loved in Cairo until he retired. In addition to being survived by his loving daughter, Lynda Gail, he also leaves behind his son-in-law, Hugh O. Love III, two grandsons, Bradley F. Anderson (Mary) of Gallatin, and Thomas H. Anderson (Leah) of Montrose, Colorado, as well as two great-granddaughters, Breyanna and Kalyn Anderson and one great-grandson, Hayden Anderson.

Homer was an active member of the Sumner County community, serving as a Farm Bureau Director for over 50 years, a Masonic Lodge member for over 70 years, past President Cairo Community Club and County Council of Community Clubs, ASCS County Committee member for 20 years, past member of Wilson County Bank Advisory Board, member and past-Board member of Gallatin Chamber of Commerce, and Lifetime Ambassador of Sumner County Food Bank.

In 2011 he saw the great need in helping to feed those who were hungry in our community, and started the annual Fall Ride for Food Motorcycle Ride to benefit the SC Food Bank. He was responsible for raising over $350,000 for this worthy charity, as well as awareness of the organization.

Homer was the recipient of many awards including Gallatin Citizen of the Year, Sumner County Order of the Horse, Governor’s Volunteer Star Award, State Volunteer of the Year from Tennessee Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Richard A. Fowlkes Excellence in Aging Award, Allison Social Holiness Award from the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church, Sertoma’s Service to Mankind Award, and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He also was honored as Grand Marshal of Gallatin’s Christmas Parade.

Volunteering was his favorite way to serve others. For years he volunteered at Sumner Regional Medical Center, logging in over 11,000 hours. From there he went on to volunteer for many more years at Morningside of Gallatin, with over 25,000 hours. He also was Morningside’s official Community Ambassador. After a number of years as volunteer, he chose to move in at Morningside, continuing to give his time as a volunteer as well as a resident. Homer was a well-known and well-loved member of this community, who inspired and helped more people than we will ever know.
