James Michael Ginnetti, beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and extraordinary musician, passed away leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and love that will continue to resonate for generations.
Born into a large, close-knit family as one of eight children, James was the son of the late Joseph Nicholas Ginnetti and Marion Vincenza Muscolo Ginnetti. Music found him early, and by the age of nine he was already playing the piano. Blessed with an extraordinary ear, James could seemingly play any instrument he picked up.
James began his musical journey performing with his family's group, The Nichols Brothers Band, where his passion for entertaining first took root. Throughout his distinguished career, he shared stages and studios with some of the biggest names in music, including Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Lonestar, David Pack, and countless others. His exceptional musicianship also led him to perform among the likes of the Pips, the Commodores, and the Doobie Brothers, experiences he treasured throughout his life. He even appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, a testament to the extraordinary path his career would take.
Whether seated behind a piano, picking up a left-handed guitar, or effortlessly mastering yet another instrument, James amazed audiences and fellow musicians alike. To those who knew him best, his greatest gift wasn't simply his talent—it was the generosity with which he shared it. He encouraged fellow musicians, brought joy to every performance, and made everyone around him better.
One of the proudest moments of his life came on June 27, 2026, when he was inducted into the Ohio Country Music Hall of Fame, recognizing decades of excellence and contributions to the music community.
Away from the stage, James was known for his kind heart, and love of his family. He was an enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs fan and found immeasurable happiness at home with his beloved wife, Tonya, and their cherished wiener dogs, Nico, Capo, and Bullitt.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Nicholas Ginnetti and Marion Vincenza Muscolo Ginnetti, and his sister, Terri Ginnetti.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Tonya; his brothers Joey Ginnetti (Debbie), Tony Ginnetti (Cheryl), and Fred Ginnetti (Cindy); his sisters Gina Gould, Louise Crooke, and Libby Roth (Rick); a plethora of nieces and nephews; honorary niece and nephew Paul and Brittney Calahan; and a host of dear friends, fellow musicians, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
A celebration of life honoring James will be held at a future date.
