Janet Lucille Hunter, nee Skinner, was at home with her beloved husband when she passed away on Feb 12, 2026. She was born in Kansas City, KS, on Feb 26, 1941.
She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1959. She was the mother of three children. Her house was always full of life and love. Many neighborhood children also called her mom. She later graduated from Volunteer State Community College in the 1980s and worked as a respiratory therapist at St. Thomas Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Lucille Skinner, nee Berry, and Walter J. Skinner. She was also preceded by two of her sisters, Patricia Skinner and Susan Costello.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dwane Y. Hunter; her children, Susan (James) DuBois, Brian (Kara) Hunter, and Michael Hunter; her grandchildren, David DuBois, Matthew DuBois, Joseph (Tammy Chen) DuBois, Catherine (Ravi) DuBois-Prathipati, Sarah DuBois, Andrew Hunter, Ella Grace Hunter, and Spencer Hunter; her great-granddaughter, Luna DuBois; and her siblings, Linda Hodges, James Skinner, Debbie Patmore, Ron Skinner, and Gary Skinner.
Janet was a founding member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville, TN. She loved her Bible study group, which she was part of for decades. Lunch after Bible study was another long-standing favorite. She had a large circle of friends, and socializing always made her happy. One of her most beloved activities was tea parties with her grandchildren. She was looking forward to carrying on that tradition with her great-granddaughter. She had already bought a tea set for Luna. She loved shopping with her granddaughters. She was always incredibly generous. She inherited her mother’s sense of humor and used it with skill.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul.
