After Janice graduated from San Pasqual Academy in 1958 she went on to Pacific Union College to study music (piano and violin) and PreMed, graduating in 1962.

Janice met her husband Earl Charles (Chuck) Hackett MD when she was 16 and he was 17 years old through mutual friends. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 10, 2025.

Music continued to be her passion as she formed touring choirs who traveled in a bus to give concerts around remote areas of Guatemala. In 1981 they returned to the United States where Janice joined her father in his medical practice. After that she worked part time in various places, eventually retiring from the Woodlake Family Health Center in 2006. For 28 years they were faithful members of the Exeter Seventh Day Adventist church in Exeter, CA.
