Jerry Soares, a dedicated law enforcement officer and beloved member of his community, departed this life unexpectedly while on duty on September 15, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee. Born on July 31, 1962, in Visalia, California, Jerry lived a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep sense of purpose.

Over the course of an esteemed 41-year career in law enforcement, Jerry's journey began in California with the La Verne Police Department and continued through the Chino Police Department, Santa Rosa Police Department, and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. He later joined the Sumner County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, where he had the honor of serving as a beloved School Resource Officer at Gallatin High School and was an active member of the Sumner County Motor Unit. Jerry's unwavering dedication to his profession made a lasting impact on countless lives, earning the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the community he served.

Jerry was a proud 1980 graduate of Don Lugo High School in Chino, California, and furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from California State University Long Beach. Throughout his life, he embodied the values of discipline, generosity, and encouragement. Friends and family describe him as stoic and caring, always ready to lend support with a kind word or helpful hand.

A man of deep faith, Jerry was a dedicated member and former deacon at Creekside Fellowship; his spirituality was an integral part of his life that guided his actions and interactions with others. To his loving wife of 38 years, Gwen Soares, Jerry was her superman and devoted protector, a role he cherished deeply. Together, they built a life filled with love and purpose.

Jerry is also survived by his sons, Jeremy Schlesinger (Lindsay), Jason Soares, and Jared Soares (Makenzie), as well as four cherished grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Additionally, he is remembered by his siblings, Elaine Dias, Manuel Soares, and Annette Indaburu, who, along with extended family and friends, will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Carmen Soares, and his brother, Frank Soares. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
