Joseph "Joey" S. Cupit, 49, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born in Houston, Texas, on June 8, 1977, Joe was a man defined by his strong work ethic, his independent spirit, and an unwavering dedication to the people in his life.
Joe was a stickler for detailed quality in his work and a familiar face in his community. He owned and operated Lush Lawn Care, pouring his energy into his business and proudly cutting sharp “lines” for his customers that knew they could rely on him and his many assistants over the years to leave their properties looking great. Joe also enjoyed spending the holiday season operating the smokehouse at Galloway Farms, where he took great pride in making and serving “pinwheels” that are known throughout Middle Tennessee.
To know Joe was to know a man fiercely loyal to his friends and family. Even when times were complex or he found himself at odds with those closest to him, his underlying devotion to the people he loved never faltered.
Joe’s greatest legacy lives on in his beloved daughter, Heaven Cupit, who was truly his greatest pride and joy. He leaves behind his former wife, Ashley Cupit, and her son, Jeremiah, whom Joe proudly helped raise for several years.
Joey’s surviving family includes his brother, Thomas Cupit and his wife, Karen, of Manchester, Connecticut, along with their four children. Jesikah Richmond, his beloved cousin, who grew up alongside him in Houston, is among many cousins spread across many US states to include some in Gallatin, TN, and other extended family in Houston. Joe was blessed to have the faithful support of his aunt, Jeanine Wright, and her husband, Bobby, whose steadfast wisdom and encouragement were a meaningful source of strength for him.
Fancy Kelley faithfully stood by his side over the last few years.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ora R. Jennings (Cupit); his father, Anthony Bluney; his stepfather, Sylvan Jennings; and his grandmother, Marjorie R. Cupit, formerly of Houston, Texas, and Gallatin, Tennessee.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Joe's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 679 Red River Road, Gallatin, TN. Friends, family, and the many local customers who built a relationship with Joe over the years through his local businesses are warmly welcomed to attend and share their memories.
