Joshua David Patterson, lovingly known as “Josh,” was born on September 2, 1973, in Tennessee and was raised in Goodlettsville. He later made his home in Cross Plains, Tennessee, where he spent the last 20 years building a life, raising his family, forming lasting friendships, and becoming a valued member of the community he loved. Josh passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service, generosity, laughter, and unconditional love for his family and friends.
A proud graduate of Hunters Lane High School’s Class of 1991, Josh possessed a remarkable talent for building and fixing just about anything. Whether it was a project around the house, a new idea he wanted to bring to life, or helping someone else with a problem, Josh always found a way to get it done. He enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in creating things that would last.
One of the most meaningful chapters of Josh’s life was his service as a firefighter with the Goodlettsville Fire Department. He cherished the friendships he made there and was proud to serve and protect his community. The values of service, courage, and helping others remained with him throughout his life.
More than anything else, Josh loved his family. His greatest pride and accomplishment was his son, Tad Meadows Patterson. The bond between them was special, built on countless hours spent racing slot cars, fishing, grilling, laughing, and simply enjoying life together. Josh also deeply loved his daughters, Jessica Berry and Ellie Earles, and treasured every moment he spent with his grandchildren, Everly, Saint, and Bentley. Being their “Papa” brought him immeasurable joy.
Those who knew Josh knew that he had a heart as big as his personality. He was a quiet giver, often helping people in need without ever seeking recognition. Many acts of kindness performed by Josh will never be known because he believed helping others was simply the right thing to do. Whether it was a neighbor, a friend, or a complete stranger, Josh was always willing to lend a hand.
Josh had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and a way of making people laugh even during difficult times. His family often joked that he was “the smartest dumb person you’d ever meet.” He could figure out almost anything, solve problems others couldn’t, and still find a way to make everyone around him smile.
Josh is survived by his loving wife, Christie Renee Patterson; his father, Charles David Patterson; his mother, Kathy Sue Patterson; his brother, Zack (Kari) Patterson; his son, Tad Meadows Patterson; his daughters, Jessica Berry and Ellie Earles; his cherished grandchildren, Everly, Saint, and Bentley; his aunts, Kathy Meadows and Marlen Meadows; his cousin, James Meadows; and his lifelong best friend, Rusty Tinnin, whose friendship was one of the great blessings of Josh’s life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Bob and Evelyn Meadows, and his uncle, Robby Meadows.
Josh will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and the entire community that was fortunate enough to know him. Though his time here feels far too short, the impact he made will live on in the people he loved, the lives he touched, and the memories that will forever be carried in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
The family asks that those wishing to honor Josh’s memory do so by helping someone in need, spending time with loved ones, lending a helping hand, or simply sharing a laugh with a friend—because those were the things that mattered most to him.
Rest easy, Josh. Your work here is done, your watch is over, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
