Maireane Durham, age 97 of Hendersonville, passed away August 24, 2025. Maireane was born on September 28, 1927 in Smithville, Tennessee to the late James and Addy Hale.
Mairene spent her professional career as a longtime nurse at Nashville Memorial Hospital until its closure. Known for her dedication to her nursing career, she left an indelible mark on those whose lives she touched. Her kindness, empathy, and professionalism made her a respected figure among her colleagues and patients alike.
Educated at New Hope School, she played an essential role in starting the annual reunions, showcasing her passion for maintaining connections with her past. A proud graduate of Hendersonville High School in 1947, Mairene was an active member of the women’s basketball team, embodying the spirit of teamwork and determination.
A devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church, Mairene was recognized as the oldest active member, reflecting her deep-rooted commitment to her faith and community. Beyond her professional life, Mairene enjoyed various hobbies that enriched her life. She was an avid bowler, proudly displaying her patches and trophies, and she actively participated with the Boy Scouts, embodying the values of service and leadership.
Mairene is survived by her beloved sons, Richard Durham and Bobby Durham; her grandchildren, Christina McCarl (Brian), Ashley Tinnin (Rusty), and Kristin Plamondon (Chris); and her many cherished great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Capps, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will continue to honor her legacy of love, care, and community service.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Durham; her son, Lloyd C. Durham; her granddaughter, Jessica Durham Palmer; and her siblings, James Hale, Floyd Hale, Virginia Hale Lamb, Sara Hale Rice, Wilma Hale Henson, and Jay Lloyd Hale. Their memories will forever be woven into the fabric of the lives she touched.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside with Pastor Duane Wray officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
