Marjorie Ruth Arnold Lamb, age 97, of Hendersonville, TN, formerly of Pittsfield, IL, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026. She was born on July 12, 1928 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Preston Taylor Arnold and Ida Fern Etnoyer Arnold of Cerro Gordo, IL.
Marge attended school in Cerro Gordo and graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1946. She was a graduate of Illinois State Normal University.
Marge met the love of her life, Walter Lamb, on a blind date while they were in college. They married in 1951 and were married for 74 years, until Wally’s death in May of 2025.
Marge’s education career included teaching English, Title 1 Reading, and Preschool in Warren, Macon, Piatt, and Pike School districts. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma International Education Society where she served as Treasurer and Corresponding Secretary.
Marge is survived by her 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Brent McCracken (CA), Jane and Paul Cook (TN), and Becky and Drew Terry (TX). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Eric Cook (Anna), Colin McCracken (Kristin), Cameron Cook (Hannah), Lindsey McCracken Taylor, Sarah Cook Sparkman (Daniel), Conor Terry, and Brendan Terry, and 4 great-grandchildren: Eliza, Bryce, Benjamin and Austin. She is also survived by her very special twin sister, Martie Geist, of Wentzville, MO.
She is preceded in death by her Wally, her parents, her brother John Arnold and sister Elizabeth Lange, many additional family members, and dear friends.
During her time in Pittsfield, Marge was an active member of the First Christian Church Pittsfield where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and in the choir and in CWF. She was very active in the Pittsfield community in P.E.O., where she was Chaplain, Corresponding Secretary, and Recording Secretary, and as a 4-H and Girl Scout troop leader. She also supported Wally in his many community roles in Rotary and the Pittsfield Community Center.
In addition to Wally, Marge’s greatest joy was being with her daughters and their families – hosting at their home, visiting the girls’ homes, or traveling on trips together. She would plan for weeks in advance and always hated to see the time together end. She also cherished her many friendships and loved to serve as a hostess to all. She continued her hostess role in TN, and the friends and staff where she lived truly enjoyed their time with her. She loved others well and was well loved. She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service celebrating the life of both Walter and Marjorie Lamb will be held at the First Christian Church of Pittsfield (IL) on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11AM.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church of Pittsfield in memory of Walter and Marjorie Lamb at P.O. Box 306, Pittsfield, IL 62363.
