Martha Frances Lockhart Kenney

Martha Frances Lockhart Kenney, age 93 of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. Martha was born on July 16, 1932 in Parrish, Alabama to the late Mary Jane Stanson Lockhart and George Franklin Lockhart, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Andrew “Leslie” Kenney, daughter Dr. Sharon Elizabeth Kenney-Biggart and grandson Steven Brad Kenney. She is survived by her brother George Lockhart, III, half-brothers Mike, Pat (Sue) and Dwight Lockhart, children Andrea Kenney Pitt, Steven (Melanie) Kenney and Aletha Kenney. She is survived by grandchildren Jason (Missy) Pitt, Jennifer (Travis) Stalsworth, Matthew (Jennifer) Pitt, Gregg Kenney, Justin (Brooke Swinhoe and Andrew (Micah) Swinhoe, Ryan and Nick (Kailani) De Lorenza. She is survived by twelve (12) great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha grew up in Auburn and Pepperell, Alabama where she became an accomplished pianist performing lots of recitals. She attended Clift High School where she excelled and graduated at the age of 16 years old. After graduating from high school she attended the University of Alabama but decided to return to Opelika to marry her high school sweetheart (Leslie) at the age of 17.

Martha was very committed not only to their marriage but to God, always seeking His guidance throughout their ministry. Through her talents of music and administrative assistant, she was a great asset to her husband as God led them to churches in Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee.

During their years in Texas, Martha and Leslie decided to establish Stewardship Ministries where Martha produced all the materials for the presentations. Martha later went to work for Caltex where she received various rewards for her outstanding performance as an Administrative Assistant.

Martha enjoyed music, reading, writing, painting, sewing, golf, traveling and the grandchildren. Most of all, she treasured her times in studying God’s word and trusting in Him to lead their path throughout their ministry.

Celebration of Life for Leslie and Martha will be August 5, 2025 at First Baptist Church Hendersonville Chapel. The service will be at 11:30 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
