Mary Susan Scherrer

Mary Susan Scherrer, lovingly known as Susan, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 66. She was born on October 16, 1959, in Scottsville, Kentucky to William Atwood and Ida Louis Atwood, and was raised in Gallatin, Tennessee. 

For over 30 years, Susan dedicated her life to caring for others as a licensed practical nurse. Her compassion and gentle spirit made a lasting impact on the lives she touched in the healthcare field. She found joy in her work, embodying the essence of kindness and love for those she cared for. Susan was passionate about boating on Old Hickory Lake, where she found serenity and happiness on the water. Her adventurous spirit led her to the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, places that filled her with joy and gave her countless memories to treasure. At home, she found delight in the companionship of her beloved chihuahuas, who brought her endless love and laughter. 

Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, adventure, and joy. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her. 

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Blake (Natalie) Scherrer and Brent (Courtney) Scherrer; grandchildren Cayden, Kynlee, and Faith; sisters Robin Atwood and Kim (Norm) McNabb; nieces and nephew Ross, April, and Rachel; and beloved childhood friends Patty Bartlett, Kim French, Vivian Layman, Kim McMahan, Carolyn Neal, and Jan Polka. 

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, May 8th, 2026, for a memorial visitation honoring Susan’s life from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Sumner Funeral and Cremation Lakeside, 104 Sanders Ferry Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075.
