With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Nyma Massey Bowman, who peacefully passed away at home on July 8, 2026, surrounded by those she loved most.

Nyma was truly one of a kind, beginning with her unforgettable name. She had a way of lighting up every room with her infectious smile, beautiful big eyes, and warm, joyful spirit. Her laughter, kindness, and vibrant personality left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Nyma was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Frances Massey and Dr. William R. Massey of Gallatin, Tennessee. From an early age, she was fiercely loyal and protective of family especially of her brother, Roe Massey. Best friends, she and Roe, plus eldest sister Jane Ellen (preceded in death) were a constant presence in Gallatin, from cruising across town in TN’s first VW van, to riding bareback on the family farm, to jumping off the old 109 bridge for fun.

Nyma embraced life with adventure and determination. She earned the distinction of Master Scuba Diver and felt most at home underwater, exploring the world’s reefs and waters with her forever dive buddy and husband, Michael Bowman. With over 500 dives together, their love remains as deep as the oceans they explored around the world. Whether she was water skiing across Old Hickory, carving through fresh snow on the slopes, or creating something extraordinary in her workshop as a master woodworker, Nyma lived with passion, curiosity, and fearless enthusiasm.

Above all, Nyma’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a beautiful, soul-deep love with her devoted husband, Michael. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughters, Ashleigh Weeks Serrao and Rachael Weeks Treadway, and became “Nymom” to their children, Addyson Galyon and Patterson Massey, who adored her playfulness beyond words. When she married Michael, her family grew to include his daughters, Shelley Davis and Jennifer Bowman, whom she welcomed and loved as her own. They, too, were by her side as she passed. Her greatest legacy lives on through her eleven cherished grandchildren and one great-grandson, each of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

Nyma’s love was unconditional, her strength unwavering, and her heart generous beyond measure. She taught those around her to laugh often, love deeply, work hard, and never be afraid to embrace life’s adventures. Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us and the lasting impact she made on so many lives.

In leu of flowers the family welcomes donations to Alzheimer's Tennessee (Link) or PADI AWARE Foundation (Link).

Friends and family will gather at Nyma’s home to celebrate her life on a beautiful day to be announced.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered every time the sun sparkles on the water, fresh snow falls, or a smile brightens a room.
