In Loving Memory of Peter Resmeriță
Today we gather with heavy hearts to remember and honor the life of Peter Resmeriță, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow because we must say goodbye, they are also filled with gratitude for the years God gave us with Pete and for the legacy he leaves behind.
Pete was born on June 16, 1953, in the village of Tutova, Vaslui County, Romania. Together with his three sisters and one brother, he was raised by his mother, learning from an early age the values of perseverance, responsibility, and hard work, qualities that would define his life.
After completing his primary education, Pete attended trade school and began working as a sheet-metal fabricator at Uzina Tractorul in Brașov. Those who knew him understood that he was not a man who feared work. Quite the opposite, work was one of the ways he expressed his love for his family. He believed that providing for those he loved was both an honor and a responsibility.
In 1973, Pete married the love of his life, Rica. Together they built a marriage that lasted fifty-three years, a remarkable testimony of commitment, endurance, and partnership through every season of life.
God blessed them with three children.
Their oldest son, George, was born in Brașov in 1975. Today, he lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his family. George and his wife have two children, Austin Michael and Natalie Sophia, and Pete and Rica also had the joy of becoming great-grandparents through Austin.
Their second son, Tom, was born in Brașov in 1981 and now lives in Spain.
Their daughter, Diana, was born in California in 1988 and now lives in Tennessee.
Like so many Romanians of his generation, Pete carried a dream deep in his heart, the dream of freedom and of building a better future for his family. During the difficult years of communist Romania, that dream never left him. In 1981, it became reality when he courageously escaped Romania and came to the United States. Soon afterward, Rica and their two young sons were reunited with him, and together they began a new chapter of life in their new country.
Starting over in a foreign land was not easy, but Pete was never afraid of hard work. Through determination, long hours, and unwavering dedication, he built a successful career in auto body repair. For many years, he owned his own body shop and later invested in commercial real estate. These accomplishments brought him satisfaction, not merely because they represented financial success, but because they were the fruit of years of sacrifice and enabled him to provide for the people he loved most.
Pete was a serious and disciplined man. He preferred work over leisure and rarely took time for himself. While he occasionally traveled to Romania and other parts of Europe, vacations were never his priority. His greatest desire was to build a secure future for his family.
Away from work, Pete enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved watching tennis and soccer, especially when family gathered around the television. Every summer, he and Rica cared for their garden together, finding satisfaction in seeing what patience and care could produce.
Although he was passionate about investing and creating opportunities for his family, those who knew him best remember much more than that. They remember his generosity, his practical wisdom, his quiet patience, his sense of humor, and the hospitality that made people feel welcome in his home.
One of Pete's greatest joys was cooking. Preparing meals for family and friends was one more way he expressed his love. Diana especially remembers the many hours she spent with her father at his auto body shop, watching him work with skill and dedication. She also treasures the annual tradition of decorating the Christmas tree together. Those were simple moments that became precious lifelong memories.
Pete also found joy in the companionship of Mimi, the family cat, and Piper, Diana's dog. He and Rica were always willing to visit friends who were sick or facing difficult times, offering encouragement, practical help, and simply the gift of their presence.
When we think about Pete's life, we see a man who believed that love was demonstrated more through actions than words. He worked tirelessly. He sacrificed quietly. He provided faithfully. He built not only a business, but a family whose lives were shaped by his dedication and perseverance.
To Rica: fifty-three years of marriage cannot be summarized in a few words. Together you shared dreams, struggles, victories, disappointments, laughter, and countless ordinary days that together became an extraordinary life. Today we mourn with you and pray that God will surround you with His comfort.
To George, Tom, and Diana: your father has left you a priceless inheritance, not only in what he built with his hands, but in the example of diligence, resilience, responsibility, and love for family. May those memories continue to guide and encourage you in the years ahead.
Pete's earthly journey has come to an end, but for those who place their trust in Jesus Christ, death does not have the final word. The Scriptures remind us that because Christ died and rose again, those who belong to Him have the hope of resurrection and everlasting life.
While we grieve today, we do not grieve without hope. We release Pete into the hands of our gracious God, confident that His mercy is greater than our understanding and His promises never fail.
May God comfort every member of this family, grant them strength in the days ahead, and keep alive the precious memories of a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose life touched so many.
