Richard Leroy "Dick" Fuhr, age 86 of Hendersonville, TN, passed away peacefully on January 8,2026, with the love of his life, Bonnie, by his side. He was born in Buffalo, NY on September 26,1939 to John E. Fuhr and Dorothy M. Newell.
Richard graduated from Seneca High School in 1957. He attended electrical college for one year but the majority of his professional career was spent working in automobile dealerships as a service writer and mechanic. Along the way, he owned a pool company and dabbled in other vocations such as carpentry and drafting. He retired from the car industry at the age of 65. Following retirement, he decided to embark on another adventure; driving a school bus for Sumner County Schools for 12 years until he retired at the age of 80. He always said it was the most rewarding work of his life. Richard made many friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger. He and Bonnie enjoyed going to concerts, fishing, and spending time with family. While visiting FL, he would catch up with siblings and take in a round of golf.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Lou Cohn; brother, Thomas E. Fuhr; and sons, James Shoulders and Joe Shoulders.
Richard's caring, loving, and generous spirit is to be remembered by his loving wife of 23 years, Bonnie Fuhr; and sister, Mary Jane Spengler. Being a father was one of his favorite roles, though he would often say "I told you not to have kids" and laugh. He is survived by daughters, Daphne Slunaker (Dawayne), Melody Nicole Shoulders, Amy Fuhr, Nancy Fuhr, and Alana Kuhnert (Scott) and sons, John Fuhr (Shelby) and Stephen Fuhr (Alison). Richard was Nanot and best friend to great son, Stephan Lamont Shoulders. He was cherished by his many grandchildren: Dustin Fuhr (Amber), Aaron Fuhr (Kathy), Gillean Fuhr, Elle Trevits (Facundo), Casey Trevits, Mason Bonn, Logan Bonn, Ike Kurhnert, Van Kuhnert, Ethan Shoulders, and baby girl Fuhr, due in February. Great grandchildren left to remember Richard are Adalyn Fuhr, John Thomas Fuhr, and Judah Trevits.
Special thanks go out to the hospice staff, especially Melissa, for their love and support, special friends Chad and Tammy Simmons and breakfast buddy, Ken Robson. If you knew Richard, he always had a funny joke, story, or piece of advice. He would want you to love each other and look out for each other. And by the way, there are no free lunches.
