Richard A. Thornhill

Richard A. Thornhill Sr., age 78, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Richard was the son of John Wesley Naylor and Leila Naylor (Shumate). He was born on January 22, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Northeast High School in Kansas City and continued his education earning two degrees in Chemistry and Computer Sciences. Richard had a lifelong career has a chemist in the food science industry. He retired in 2010 from Archer-Daniel-Midland as the manager of the quality assurance lab. 

Richard married Felicia Gore on December 30, 1972 in Kansas City, MO. Richard and Felicia had three children, Jennifer (Thornhill) Bracken, Brian Thornhill and baby Thornhill who passed in childbirth. Richard also had two sons from a previous marriage, Richard A Thornhill Jr. and David Thornhill. 

Richard was a loving husband, father and Opa to his grandchildren. He loved his wife of 50 years and together they loved to travel, he also enjoyed baking. Richard was an active member of his community serving as a Boy Scout leader, Soccer Coach and 4-H Leader for his children.  

Richard is survived by his daughter Jennifer and her husband Matthew Bracken and his granddaughters Harleigh and Gracyn, Hendersonville, TN; his son Richard Thornhill, Jr. and his wife Marie and his grandsons Tyler and James of Fontana, CA; his son David Thornhill and his wife Theresa and his grandchildren Elsa and Spencer of Prairie Village, KS, and his daughter-in-law Tarrah Thornhill and his granddaughter Kyleigh of Nixa, MO. 

He is preceded in death by his parents John Wesley and Leila Naylor, his wife Felicia Thornhill, his son Brian Thornhill, and his grandson Kyle Thornhill. 

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at Beech Cumberland Cemetery in Hendersonville, TN.
