Ronald Preston Elliott, Sr. Age 87 of Madison passed away December 19, 2023. Ron was born in Salisbury, Maryland on April 12, 1936. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard Preston Elliott, Blanche Belle Church, and his beloved wife of 59 years Leslie Ann Elliott.
Ron is survived by his children, R.P. Elliott (Teresa), Edie Hayward (Ron), Nancy Elliott, and Cheryl Elliott; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Ron served in the U.S. Army as a tank commanding Sgt. in the Korean War (Germany). He moved to Nashville in 1966 to pursue his career playing the pedal steel guitar. He played on the Grand Ole Opry for 25 years, toured with many artists, and was later inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2009. He also worked for the Davidson County Sheriff's Office in the 70's and played in the Sheriff's music band. Ron was known for his love of family, friends and the steel guitar. He touched many people either by his music or sense of humor.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 P.M. until time of service.
