Ronald Edward Jackson, Sr., age 78, born February 19, 1946 passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Berry Jackson and his mother, Mary Katherine Midget Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nina Swallows Jackson; children, Ronald Edward Jackson, Jr. (Mary Borum), Denise Caffrey (Frank), Bryan Lyda (Alicia), and Julia Smelker; sister, Gwen(John) Sloan; grandchildren, Annabelle Lee Jackson, Samantha Caffrey, Jessica Lyda, Brittany Lyda, Alexandrea, Donjai, and Jasmine.
Ron grew up in Madison, Tennessee and graduated from Madison High School in 1964. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army 1970 - 1972 and reserve until June 1976. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Marksmanship Medal.
For approximately 30 years, he served as the Secretary for the Gallatin Gun Club and Middle Tennessee Sporting Association. He participated in many sporting competitions locally and across the southeast, and won numerous awards for his marksmanship. He had a strong commitment to the club and enjoyed spending time there with his friends.
Ron had a strong faith. He was a loving husband, father, and granddaddy, with a great sense of humor and generosity. He also enjoyed hiking, riding his motorcycle and working on many projects at home.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9,2024 at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3216 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN. 37075. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Following the service, please join family and friends for fellowship and meal in the Christian Life Center.
