It is with profound sadness, yet with the hope and assurance found in Jesus Christ, that we announce the passing of Shane Sloan, a devoted husband, loving father, faithful follower of Christ, cherished family man, loyal friend, and respected coworker.

Shane Sloan was born in Nashville on September 20, 1964, and had a wonderful childhood. He grew up in a loving household where all the neighborhood kids gathered. At the age of 5, he received his first motorcycle for Christmas. While showing off his new prized possession to the neighborhood friends, Shane promptly crashed it straight into the ditch.

Shane shared a remarkable love story with his lifelong soulmate, Teresa. Their journey together began when they met in elementary school. By the age of 15 and 16, they were inseparable, and that young love blossomed into a lifetime of unwavering devotion. They got married on August 7, 1987, and through every season of life, they stood side by side, building a marriage rooted in love, faithfulness, and commitment. They have barely known a world without one another. They gave birth to their daughter Shayna Marie on July 29, 1994, who was his greatest joy in life. Shayna was truly the light of his life. He was immensely proud of her and treasured every moment they shared. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and they remained the center of his world.

Shane had a great love of sports, especially baseball. He grew up playing on multiple teams, eventually playing on a co-ed team with Teresa until they transitioned into softball coaches for Shayna. No matter what sport it was, Shane never missed one of Shayna's games and was at every football game when she was a cheerleader. When Shayna was in college and he couldn't be there in person, Shane would always watch the livestream of her ballroom dance competitions, cheering her on from the living room. As a father, Shane was always up for anything, whether it was the annual girl scout father-daughter dance or staying one extra day at Disney World or the beach after already being there for a week.

Shane was an avid lover of music starting with his first drum set at the age of 3. His love of music grew throughout his life, later learning to play the guitar (his prized 1977 Les Paul), as well the keyboard. He also played in a band for several years. He shared his love of music with his wife and daughter as they traveled and attended concerts across the Southeast. He later shared this love of music with his son-in-law, often sending each other songs they found and discussing new artists they discovered. His favorite band for many years was the Foo Fighters, and he and his wife's song was “My Hero.”

Shane had a love of nature and a green thumb. He would often spend long days working in the yard gardening and trimming. The ditch in the front yard typically had brush waiting to be picked up as Shane would keep the tree line and yard trimmed year round. Shane also enjoyed working on his wife's lavender garden as well as a vegetable garden. The well maintained vegetable garden always produced, but not always for humans, as the wildlife often got there first. For Shane, this was an acceptable arrangement as he had an affinity for the birds and wildlife. He always enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder and the deer in the backyard. He even had Teresa feed the bird seed to the wild turkeys when they passed through. Even a bug that got into the house was not to be harmed, but carefully relocated to a plant outside.

Shane dedicated nearly 35 years of his life to Metro Water Services. He provided a constant and steadying force to all that worked with him. He spent much of his career in engineering and development services where he developed a skill set second to none. His tireless efforts in development services and review were instrumental in the growth of Nashville’s water and sewer infrastructure. But what he enjoyed most was sharing his skills with younger colleagues, and in that, his impact will forever live on at Metro Water Services. He will be missed and never forgotten.

One of Shane's proudest moments in life was his daughter's wedding. In the months leading up to the wedding, many of his coworkers often recalled watching Shayna grow up as Shane would frequently take her to work with him. He often spoke about how wonderful the wedding was and how he enjoyed being surrounded by so many of his closest friends, family, and colleagues.

Given the big-hearted person he was, Shane teared up almost as much as his daughter while walking her down the aisle. It was a very happy day for all involved. Teresa recalled that Shane stated on more than one occasion that on this day, he finally got the son he never had. Along with his daughter's wedding, another proud moment in his life was his daughter's graduation from George Washington University and later her acceptance into Nashville School of Law. One of Shane's long time dreams was for his daughter to become a lawyer. Shane worked very hard to make sure his family wanted for little and could excel in life. While Shane was in college at Volunteer State, his father who owned a masonry business became ill, so Shane left the collegiate world at that time to support his father and mother as well as Teresa who was in school at Belmont University. He was often described by most who knew him as the type of man to give you the shirt off his back.

The most important thing to Shane was his family. When Shane learned his time was drawing near, his concern first and foremost was not for himself but for his wife Teresa, his daughter Shayna, and his son-in-law Michael. He had stated that he was at peace, but worried most of all about what life would look like for his wife when he was gone. He recognized it would just be the three of them when he was gone and told them to be sure to take care of each other. Shane will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family, his loyal friendship, and the quiet strength that touched so many lives. Though he will be deeply missed, those who knew him find comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of his Savior, and that his legacy of love and kindness will continue through all who were blessed to know him.

Shane is survived by his loving wife Teresa Sloan, loving daughter Shayna Wilson (Michael), father-in-law Billy Escue (Suzy), brother-in-law Steve Escue (Pam), niece Megan Darcy (Michael), and three of his closest friends who he loved like brothers, Jeff Potter, Dale West, and Brian Kemp.

Preceded in death by his loving mother & father Marlene “Nan” & Billy “Big Daddy” Sloan, brother Billy Sloan Jr., aunt Margarette Pentecost (Tommy), mother-in-law Marie Escue.

The celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside (104 Sanders Ferry Rd, Hendersonville, TN 37075). Receiving of friends will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with service at 4:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at Spring Hill Cemetery (5110 Gallatin Pike S., Nashville, TN 37216). Pallbearers will be: Jeff Potter, Dale West, Brian Kemp, Scott Potter, Mason Potter, Michael Darcey, Michael Perrett, and Christian Thompson.
