Steve "Chick" Crandell

Steve “Chick” Crandell, age 68 of Lebanon and formerly of Hendersonville, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2023. Chick was born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 8, 1955 to the late Thaddeus Wade Crandell and the late Rebecca Drennon Crandell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Crandell.

Chick is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicky Crandell; daughters, Stephanie Crandell (Jeff Farmer) and Kari Whittle (Will); grandchildren, Makaley Whittle, Layla Akin, Madylin Akin, Nolan Akin, Rylee Farmer, and Jack Whittle; sister, Lisa Crandell; niece, Melony Ligon; and great-nephew, Cooper Shotts.

Chick was raised in Donelson and a graduate of McGavock High School, but later made his home with his family in Hendersonville where he and Vicky raised their girls. He coached football and softball at Hendersonville High School for many years and coached travel softball. Chick was a die hard Vanderbilt fan, especially the Vandy Boys baseball team. He was a lover of college softball and was an advocate for women’s sports; and was an avid deer and duck hunter. Chick worked over 20 years for the Hendersonville Parks and Recreation Department where he truly loved his job ensuring that the fields were always taken care of no matter the day or time. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband to his wife, great father to his daughters, and beloved Papa to his grandchildren. Chick was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Chick’s family will receive friends on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside. In honor of Chick the family asks that you come as you are.
